No matter if you just started playing The Elder Scrolls: Castles, or you’ve been playing it for a while now, I am sure that today’s tips and tricks will help you play better and have more fun in the game.
This strategy guide is aimed at helping you understand the game’s mechanics, improve them, but also take advantages of some loopholes that will make your game in TES: Castles a lot easier and more pleasant. Let’s begin!
Focus on get more rarer people
Rare people are great because they have more than one trait. With a bit of planning and good luck, you can get multiple traits that are complementary and which will give massive boosts to various skills, like specific jobs or fighting stats.
Getting rarer subjects, including Epic and Legendary ones, is a matter of trial and error. But the easiest way to do it is to keep sending your rarest subjects to make children.
Make sure to only use those with traits you would like passed over to children (although there’s no guarantee they will get them). In order to know what each trait does, tap your desired subject to select them, then tap their traits to see their effects.
Note: You don’t need to send a male and a female to the Bedroom in order to get a child. Any genres/races go!
PRO TIP: Make everybody a noble
If you marry a character that’s a noble (their card has a crown on top) with somebody who isn’t, the Commoner will also become a noble.
I recommend planning a bit and marrying all Nobles with Commoners. This way, when you have to make a ruling that would upset Commoners, you can easily do so because you have none left in the castle. Pretty cool, right?
Speaking of cool things – I recommend checking out my The Elder Scrolls: Castles review too.
Heal & Entertain your people while away
Try to leave your subjects attending the Music Stage (where their happiness increases) before you quit the game for longer amounts of time. This will let them regenerate happiness while you are away, so you won’t feel the drop in productivity.
The same goes with your fighters, although healing them while playing is also a good idea if you want to go through more than just one fight. This is why I recommend fighting as soon as you start a TES: Castles sessions, send your warriors to the healing room, play for a bit, then attack once more.
Make rulings based on existing relationships/happiness levels
If you have to make a Throne Ruling that will negatively influence a person or a race, it’s best to look at all relationships and try to rule against the one you’re in the best relationship with. This way, you will probably not upset them enough for them to hate you.
There are instances where more personal choices are to be made – like deciding what to do with a potential assassin, for example, where you should consider potential risks and not a subject’s happiness.

PRO TIP: Perfect rulings loophole
I managed to find a “Perfect Ruling” loophole based on my first pro tip regarding making everyone a noble. This is a bit brutal, but it works!
So, apart from making everybody a noble (which will already make your life a lot easier), you can go one step further and only keep one race in your Castle.
It doesn’t really matter which race you keep – I’m personally aiming to have only Nords because that’s the King I chose – but the idea is simple:
If you have just one race in your castle in The Elder Scrolls: Castles, whenever you get Throne rulings that would upset that particular race, simply choose the other. This is a perfect ruling, and you only have to gain out of it.
Have in mind that this might affect gameplay and the choices you get (not sure about this, though) and it will make everything drabber, but it’s so good it’s almost like cheating.
PRO TIP #2: Make rulings BEFORE collecting resources
If you don’t want to get to such extremes, at least wait until your food and oil are ready to collect before going to make a ruling.
Many of the rulings might require you to spend either of these two resources, and if they’re ready to collect once you spend a huge amount of them, the effect of losing them won’t be as big.
Focus on completing Events / Royal Missions
There are amazing rewards to be had in Royal Missions and Events, but you usually have a limited amount of time to complete these. So make it your main focus to complete these first, in order to grab those awesome rewards.
Play and replay battles to 3-star them
For most battles, you won’t be able to 3-star them in one go, but that’s exactly how the game is intended to be played.
So look at the requirements, adjust your strategy (or just equipment, in most cases), and play the battles repeatedly until you master them. All this grinding is welcome because you also get plenty of rewards during the process.
Work on upgrading your equipment first & prioritize
The plethora of items you can craft can become (and IS) overwhelming. However, the best strategy here is to focus on the most important aspects of TES: Castles when deciding what pieces of equipment (both items and clothes) to work on:
- Kitchen and Oil are the main ones, because these are the game’s main consumables.
- War room items are second because battles become increasingly difficult.
- Everything else comes second, based on orders and whatever you have resources for.
Prioritizing is not the only thing you should do, though. You should also create these items in batches in order to upgrade them: you need 3 items of a lower level to create one of a higher level.
