In this article, I am sharing a list of all Fighters in Age of Apes, with a quick overview of their skills, strengths and weaknesses, as well as my personal impressions regarding each of them.
This is useful if you are looking to better understand the heroes in the game and make better decisions when it comes to investing in one or another to develop them as your main Fighter.
Initially, I started this article with the intention of also sharing a list of the best heroes in the game, but since it got too long with the review of each character, I decided to leave that shorter list for another article. If you’re interested in the rankings, you can find the list of the best Fighters in the game here.
Until then, let’s see what fighters we have in the game and what are my thoughts for each of them. Understanding the strengths and weaknesses, as well as the paths that Fighters should follow in order to be as useful as they can be is essential in Age of Apes.
Therefore, we’ll start by looking at the list of heroes currently available, see what each of them is capable of and be ready to make a more educated choice when it comes to training them.
The Pilots
Pilots are the fastest units in the game, essential for open-field skirmishes and hunting down retreating enemies.
Electro Jack
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Nuke / Skill Damage
Acquisition: Wheel of Fortune / Tavern Events
Electro Jack is a powerhouse introduced to shake up the Pilot meta. Unlike older pilots who focus on speed, Jack focuses on raw skill damage.
- Skills: His active skill, Voltage Overload, deals massive direct damage to up to 3 targets in a fan-shaped area. His passive, Static Field, increases active skill damage by 20%, making him a nuker.
- Talent Build: Focus on the Skill tree first to maximize rage generation, then the Pilot tree for speed.
- My Thoughts: If you are serious about open-field PvP, you need Electro Jack. He pairs exceptionally well with other skill-damage heroes. Don’t waste him on gathering; he is built for war.
Oscar

Rarity: Legendary
Role: PvE / Mutant Hunter
Initially a “pay-to-win” hero, Oscar has become more accessible over the years. He remains the king of PvE speed.
- Skills: Dragon’s Breath deals decent damage, but his true value is in Wild Profession, which boosts damage against White Mutants and increases XP gain.
- My Thoughts: Oscar is no longer a top-tier PvP choice compared to Electro Jack, but he is still the best option for farming Mutants and leveling up your other deputies. Use him to power-level your new commanders.
Maverick

Rarity: Epic
Role: Starter / Support
You get Maverick immediately, and he is the easiest fighter to star up via Rocket Missions.
- Skills: Flying High (Damage Reduction) and Jet Acceleration (Speed).
- My Thoughts: In 2026, Maverick is strictly a transition hero. Use him in the first month of playing, but do not invest universal Legendary medals in him. Once you unlock Electro Jack or Oscar, Maverick becomes a secondary deputy or a gatherer.
T.Ny

Rarity: Legendary
Role: Mutant Hunter
- My Thoughts: My opinion hasn’t changed much – she is still a bit “all over the place.” She has decent mutant hunting stats (Monster Buster skill), but she falls behind Oscar in utility and lacks the PvP punch of the newer Gen 2 pilots. Use her only if you don’t have Oscar.
Darcy (Phantom of Wildtown)
A Legendary Pilot who is the definition of “Hit and Run.” She is currently the fastest hero in the game, outpacing even Maverick.
- Pilot: Boosts ratings of Pilots.
- Hunt: Excels at fighting Mutants.
- Mobility: Unmatched speed.
Skills:
- Dimension Jump: Deals damage and increases march speed by a massive 50% for 3 seconds.
- Phantom Menace: Increases damage to Mutants and Neutral units.
- Evasion: Gives a 10% chance to completely dodge a normal attack (takes 0 damage).
- Hit and Run: Pilots gain a massive attack boost for the first 10 seconds of battle, then it fades.
My thoughts: Darcy is a niche hero, but a powerful one. She is the best “Tile Killer” in the game – you can race into enemy territory, kill a farming troop, and escape before they can react. She is also excellent for PvE events that require racing across the map.
Theodore
A Legendary Fighter who introduces the new “Toxin” mechanic. He teams up with the Spider Mech unit.
- Pilot: Boosts ratings of Pilots (specifically Mech units).
- Skill: Relies on active skill damage.
- Versatility: Good in all scenarios.
Skills:
- Toxic Spill: Deals Area of Effect (AoE) damage and applies a “Poison” debuff that deals continuous damage for 3 seconds.
- Spider Protocol: Increases the march speed and defense of Pilots.
- Chemical Warfare: Enemies affected by “Poison” take 15% increased damage from all sources.
- Corrosive Shells: Normal attacks reduce the target’s defense.
My thoughts: Theodore is the new meta-shaper. His ability to increase all damage taken by enemies (Chemical Warfare) makes him the ultimate support for Rally Leaders. Pair him with Electro Jack for a devastating “Nuke & Poison” combo.
The Hitters
Hitters are your frontline infantry. They counter Pilots and are excellent at absorbing damage.
Duke Sean
Rarity: Legendary
Role: Tank / Counter-Attack
Duke Sean is a heavy hitter designed to sit in the middle of a fight and punish anyone who touches him.
- Skills: His active skill grants a massive shield and reflects a percentage of damage back to the attacker.
- Talent Build: Go fully into the Defense and Hitter trees.
- My Thoughts: A fantastic brawler. If you like to park your army in the middle of a chaotic war and watch enemies melt while attacking you, Duke Sean is your guy. He pairs very well with Bruce for a tanky, high-damage infantry march.
Bruce

Rarity: Epic
Role: Hitter Support
- Skills: Unchained (Direct Damage) and True Leadership (Defense/Health boost).
- My Thoughts: Bruce remains the best Free-to-Play (F2P) Hitter. If you cannot afford to max out Duke Sean, Bruce is a solid alternative. His buffs to Hitter health make him a reliable deputy for any infantry army.
Scott

Rarity: Rare (Blue)
Role: Early Game / Transition
- My Thoughts: Scott is a “common” hero. In the current state of the game, he is irrelevant for combat beyond the first week. Use him strictly for gathering or as a temporary placeholder until you get Bruce.
Barzel (The Beast)
A Legendary fighter known for his brute strength. He is a hybrid commander who excels at both open-field brawling and defending Alliance structures (Flags/Fortresses).
- Hitter: Boosts ratings of Hitters.
- Garrison: Good at defending structures.
- Attack: Focuses on raw damage output.
Skills:
- Savage Roar: Increases troop attack and defense for 5 seconds.
- Territorial: Increases damage significantly when fighting inside your Alliance territory.
- Thick Skin: Reduces normal attack damage taken.
- Beast Mode: When troop strength falls below 50%, damage is increased by 20%.
My thoughts: Barzel is often overlooked, but he is a “Mini-Duke Sean.” While he isn’t as tanky as Duke, his Territorial skill makes him the absolute best choice for defending Alliance Flags during territory wars. If you are a Garrison Captain for your clan, you need him.
The Shooters
Shooters deal high damage but are squishy. They counter Hitters but get wrecked by Pilots.
Louise Armstrong

Rarity: Legendary
Role: Open Field DPS
Louise has aged like fine wine. She is still one of the best damage dealers in the game if you can keep her protected.
- Skills: Multitasking deals damage and heals, providing excellent sustain. Super Shooters passively boosts attack and defense.
- Talent Build: Contrary to my old advice, I now recommend splitting points between the Skill tree (for rage) and the Shooter tree (for raw stats). The “All-In” skill damage build is the meta.
- My Thoughts: She is a glass cannon. Pair her with a tanky deputy or ensure you have good positioning. When she fires off her skills, enemy health bars vanish.
Mike

Rarity: Epic
Role: Shooter Support
- My Thoughts: Mike is the “poor man’s Louise.” He is decent for F2P players, but his 4th skill (No Survivors) is still lackluster. Use him only if you haven’t unlocked a better Legendary shooter.
Bono Boom (War Master)
A Legendary Shooter who brings heavy firepower to garrisons. His talents are:
- Shooter: Boosts ratings of Shooters.
- Garrison: Defends the City or buildings.
- Skill: Relies on high damage active skills.
Skills:
- Rocket Barrage: Deals continuous damage to the target for 4 seconds.
- Sniper Nest: Increases Shooter range and attack when in a Garrison.
- Explosive Shells: Normal attacks deal splash damage to nearby enemies.
- Boom Time: Increases skill damage when the army is at full strength.
My thoughts: Bono Boom is unique because he is a Shooter who is also a Garrison commander. This makes him a “glass cannon” defender – he kills enemies before they can reach the wall. He is risky to use as a solo defender, but amazing when paired behind Ramses.
Siege & Garrison
This is where the real war happens. If you want to burn cities or save your own, these are the specialists.
Maximus

Rarity: Legendary
Role: City Conqueror (Siege)
Maximus is widely considered the God of War in Age of Apes.
- Skills: Double Strike (Massive Damage) and Siege Commander (Boosts Wall Breakers).
- Talent Build: Conquer tree is non-negotiable. You need every stat that boosts damage against player cities.
- My Thoughts: He is S+ Tier. If you are leading a rally against an enemy city, you must use Maximus. His ability to wipe out garrisons is unmatched. Pair him with a high-damage deputy to maximize the devastation.
Ramses (Rams)
Rarity: Legendary
Role: City Defender (Garrison)
Ramses (often called “Rams” by the community) is the absolute best choice for defending your city.
- Skills: Infallible reduces incoming damage significantly for a short duration. Eye for an Eye increases counter-attack damage when your city is being swarmed.
- My Thoughts: If you expect to get attacked, put Ramses on your wall. His survivability is insane. He turns your city into a fortress that costs enemies heavily to attack.
Korutopi & Rodriguez

Rarity: Epic
Role: Garrison Deputies
- My Thoughts: Since both of these heroes are Epics, they serve as excellent deputies to Ramses.
- Korutopi: Better for healing and sustain (Rapid Healer).
- Rodriguez: Better for damage output (Towering Strength).
- Verdict: I still prefer Korutopi for defense. The healing factor can often save your troops from filling up the hospital too quickly during a siege.
Fuscata

Rarity: Epic
Role: Defense / Support
- My Thoughts: A decent backup defender, but he has been power-crept by Ramses. Use Fuscata only if you are F2P and don’t have the Legendaries yet.
The Gatherers
You cannot fight without resources. These heroes should never see combat, but they are essential for your growth.
Sir Francis

Rarity: Epic
Role: Gathering (Food/Iron)
- My Thoughts: Still the king of gathering. Do not take him past Level 40; just unlock his gathering skills and let him farm. He is useless in PvP.
Laurent

Rarity: Legendary
Role: Gathering (Uranium/All)
- My Thoughts: Laurent is a luxury gatherer. He is fantastic for gathering Uranium (the premium resource), but investing Legendary medals in a gatherer is a tough sell for most players. Only upgrade him if your main combat heroes are already maxed out.
Greg
A Legendary fighter who is often overlooked but serves as a solid generalist. His talents are:
- Leadership: Can lead mixed troops effectively.
- Support: Buffs nearby allies.
- Gathering: Has a niche use in high-level resource nodes.
Skills:
- Motivational Speech: Heals nearby allied troops (AoE heal).
- Logistics Master: Increases troop load and gathering speed for rare resources.
- Friend of the People: Increases damage when fighting alongside Alliance members.
- Veteran’s Will: Increases defense of all troops.
My thoughts: Greg is essentially the Legendary version of Sir Francis. He is a “battle gatherer” – meaning he can gather resources safely and fight off tile hitters better than anyone else. I wouldn’t use him for main war rallies, but he is excellent for support roles.
Whew! This is it! It took a lot of time to compile this list, but it’s finally here and I am very happy with it.
Hopefully, you have a better understanding of the heroes in the game right now and you’re ready to choose the best ones for your city. If not, check out the list I linked to at the beginning to see the winners, or read my Age of Apes Guide, Tips, Tricks & Strategies to learn how to play better.
