Explore the mystical world of Secrets of Salem: The Phantom Cab, a chilling blend of supernatural noir and mystery hidden object games. Detective Victor Grayson hunts a phantom cab tied to hint games and his missing brother.
Follow my walkthrough for the first chapter as I go after the Phantom Cab in Chapter 1: Shadow of the Past and together we will find all the dark secrets of Salem.
The Phantom Cab – Chapter 1: Shadow of the Past Walkthrough
Look at the red coffee maker on the left and take the battery, duct tape, and the towel. Use the towel to clean the gear next to the machine and take it.
Check out the fax machine on the floor, open the case, take out the worn gear and put in the gear you found. Read the report and take it.
Get a closer look at the board and read the newspaper, then put the report here and check the board again. Find all the highlighted words, I put them in order.
I picked “What if it’s a ruse!” to get more clues from him. You’ll get a Phone Directory. Go to the desk and use the duct tape on the telephone wire and use it to find out more information.
Take the new message from the fax machine and take the murder locations. Put that on the board and look for all the items listed bellow.
Take the badge and use it to open the red locker behind the desk. Take the key and use it on the drawer under the coffee machine. Look at the photo and take the revolver and the money. You’ll go outside to get more clues. I circled the badges I found.
Go to the shop booth, read the paper, and take the apartment tag (1/2). Give them the money to get a flashlight. Put the battery in and use the flashlight to see down the darken alley by the motorcycle.
Take the wire (1/2), glasses, and another apartment tag (2/2). Put the tags on the purple door on the right. Put the tokens in the right order matching the patterns on the tags to get inside. Give the woman your badge.
Talk to her to find out more and remember the clues she gives you. You can only choose not to see the roof right now, so explore the place for other clues.
Look on the TV and take the soothing tea, then go to the stove, take the TV nub, and use the glasses to open the drawer and get the piezoelectric element. Now go to Elliot’s room to look for more clues.
Look at the desk and take the toothbrush, and broken record. Look on the shelves and take the gramophone part and glue. Fix the record with glue and put it back together.
Go to the gramophone on the right, put the record on, and the part, to make the parrot leave. Take the deodorant and hair gel. Go outside and use the hair gel on the bag by the red vending machine.
Use the toothbrush to clean it and get the wrench. Use that on the motorbike in the back alley. Take the map, car model and go back inside to Elliot’s room. Put the car model on the shelf and get the map, the needle, and the wire.
Look on the desk, put the piezoelectric element and wires here to fix the lighter. Go to the stove, put the tea in the cup, and use the lighter to heat some water.
Look at the hint on the wall to get the right temperature for each burner. Take the tea and give it to Elliot’s mother. Look on the sofa after she leaves, read the note and take the suction cup.
Use that on the vending machine glass outside and take the milk. Then go to the kitten by the motorbike and give her some milk. Take the cutters and the thorn scoop net.
Use the cutters on the metal hanger inside, in the closet and make an antenna out of it. Use that and the TV nub on the TV to get the code 1356.
Go to Elliot’s room and rip the posters from the wall to find the safe, then put the code here. Follow the strings for each picture that matches each number on the code. Take the letter and read it, then take the receipt and follow the clue. Make sure you hit the breaks.
Take the car key and the medical kit, then open it and select the pairs to get an item. Now look in the glove compartment and take the ammo. Insert that into the gun and shoot the windshield to get out.
Use the car key to open the trunk and find all the paired items inside.
You’ll find a nail puller. Look at the sign on the left and use that to move the wooden board and find a magnet underneath. Look by the car, next to the bag. Put the needle and magnet on the compass to fix it and take it.
Put the compass on the map to get your navigation kit. Use that on the road to reach the gas station.
Now that you reached the Gas Station, look around for more clues.
Look in the back at the tool shed and take the gas can. Use the deodorant to scare the ants away, take the bell and open the door. Go to the man at the window, take the hairpin (1/2) and the funnel.
Use the bell to wake up the man and solve the mini game before continuing. After you memorize the notes and press them in the correct order, talk to the man and give him the receipt in your inventory.
Threaten him with handcuffs to make him talk. Go back to your car to find more stuff in the trunk. Find all the items for each riddle:
- I hold the truth in ink-stained lines, where memory fades and silence shines. What am I? – Notebook
- I keep the smoke and secrets near, in metal shell, both guilt and fear. – Cigar holder
- I show a smile, a tear, a trace, now torn in half without a trace. – Thorn photo
- I break the dark with just one eye, and lead you where the shadows lie. – Flashlight
- I stand where danger draws its breath, in orange warning of near-death. – Traffic cone
- Once warm and full, now cold and bare, I’m tossed aside without a care. – Coffee cup
- I stretch to guard what must stay still, a boundary shaped by law and will. – Police tape
- I guide the ride, each turn and light, yet most ignore me day and night. – Poster
- I shine with weight the law bestows, where justice walks and danger grows. – Police badge
- With numbers neat I trade for fate, your signature decides my state. – Wallet
- I bring the blur to crisp and clear, but vanish when you need me near. – Glasses
- I crown the head of sharpest mind, in shadowed streets where clues unwind. – Hat
Take the hex key and use it to unscrew the hose from the Salem post. Go back to the gas station, to the gas pump, read the note, and put the gas tank here, connect the hose to the broken pump to fill the gas can.
Go to the tool shed, put the funnel, then add the gas to start a new mini game that will get you inside the shed. Pick the 2nd route when the right symbol is taking a right turn.
Take the knife and hair net. Look at the torn scoop net, and use the hair net to fix it. Go to the car and look at the river on the right. Use the net to get the scout badge. Use this to open the bag near the car.
Look at the file and find each highlighted word to get Elliot’s photo. Now go to the clerk and show him that. Ask him if he noticed anything weird. You’ll get a taxi number.
Go to the phone booth and use the taxi number to call a cab. Drag the fragments to their correct places to form a phone dial and get in the cab.
Explore the cab to find more clues. Open the window to talk to the driver.
Take the glove and use it to get the broken glass from the side. Open the arm rest and take the lady bag. Look at the compartment behind the driver and use the knife to cut the red thread and take the note and the tweezers.
In the window behind the driver there’s something stuck, and you can get the brooch by using the tweezers. Then use the brooch to open the lady bag. Stretch the sliders to pass the stones to match the brooch’s gems.
You’ll find a hair pin (2/2) and you can use them to open the tool box on the seat. Take the hammer and use it to break the window and play the shards game to get out.
Note: I encountered a bug on my usual phone that I use for walkthroughs and I couldn’t get past this puzzle as the game was closing by itself. Opening the game took me right at the beginning of the puzzle so I had to start all over on another phone 🙁
If you manage to pass over this, you’ll be able to finish the 1st Chapter of the Phantom Cab game.
