With the recent launch of iOS 9.0.2, Apple introduced a highly appreciated feature for our iPhones and iPads: App Slicing. This new feature that should’ve been released aeons ago allows us to reduce the size of many Apps that we install on our device and sometimes reduces it up to just a third of the original size. And since storage space – or the lack of it – is always a major concern for us, iPhone owners, App Slicing comes like free gold.
So how does App Slicing work on iOS 9?
This is a free feature that Apple has created which simply reduces the size some apps require on our devices. When you install a new app, this feature will allow you to install only the files required for your particular device. Usually, games and apps install the whole package: in other words, if you own an iPhone 5S, a game or app might install all the files that are required for it to tun on an iPhone 6 or an iPad Air – files that are not needed by the app and just take out space. With the help of this new feature, you will no longer install the not needed files! Brilliant!
How to activate App Slicing on your iPhone/iPad?
The good news is that you don’t have to do anything! Just update your operating system to run the recently launched iOS 9.0.2 and the App Slicing feature will be automatically activated! Have in mind that you will have to uninstall and re-install the apps on your device to take advantage of this new feature, but be careful regarding your data: make sure you will still have it after the new install. Also, it’s not all apps and games that use this feature since it’s relatively new, so you might want to wait a bit to make sure that you get the most out of it.
What do you think about the App Slicing feature on the iPhone and iPad? Is it something you’re happy to have now?
