There are a few easy steps you need to do to open your spellbook and increase its level.
Press the Charms icon in the bottom right corner to show you your deck. Once your deck is revealed tap on any card from your deck.
It’s best you focus your upgrades on more rare cards, above epic level. But in order to do that you need to play more and gain more cards.

You can upgrade a card by using another Rare/Epic/Legendary Wild card or another card of the same spell and gold.
Get more cards by using keys in the Magical Studies section of the Shop, or in Daily Section, and use Gold or Gems to buy them.
The cards that can be upgraded have a little arrow in the bottom right corner. You press on the card and on the arrow in the bottom right corner. As long as you have the gold and the right card for it you can upgrade the card.
