Age of Apes: Legendary Oscar – Is He Worth Buying?

| |

The easiest way to get your first Legendary Fighter in Age of Apes is… paying some real life money. For the equivalent of one real life dollar, you can unlock Legendary Oscar as one of your main heroes. But is it worth investing in getting him or not? This is what we are going to talk about today!

Oscar is a Fighter in the game that is focused on defeating White Mutants. He is actually one of the best heroes in the game when it comes to dealing with PvE threats, making it easier for you to defeat the said White Mutants. However, he is not good for gathering and he doesn’t excel in PvP either.

As you can see, answering the question whether it’s worth spending money on getting Oscar depends a lot on what expectations you have and how you plan to use him. So let’s get in depth and find out everything about this Legendary fighter, so that you can decide for yourself if he’s worth getting or not.

Age of Apes: Oscar Overview

Described as the “maddest monkey,” Oscar has three main development skill tree branches:

  • Pilot: offers advantages to Pilots
  • Hunt: offers bonuses in PvE, especially against White Mutants
  • Speed: increases troop movement and speed related boosts

His skills are:

  • Dragon’s Breath: Deals damage (300/400/500/600/800) and Continous damage for 3 seconds (50/100/150/200/300)
  • Wild Profession: Damage to White Mutants increased by percentage (8/16/24/32/40) and XP gains increased by percentage (6/12/18/24/30)
  • On the fly: Pilot attack increases by percentage (6/12/18/24/30) and speed increases by % (4/8/12/16/20)
  • First aid kit: After normal attacks, chance to heal slightly wounded troops (200/400/600/800/1,000) increase the damage of skills by % (10/20/30/40/50) and increase normal attack damage by % (4/8/12/16/20)

Oscar Build ideas

You have two routes that you can follow when building Oscar up: the PvE build, which would make him a beast against White Mutants. Just invest in the “Hunt” skill tree all your points. Combine that with being part of the best horde in the game and you will be able to easily defeat very difficult enemies on the map.

If you don’t want to “waste” this legendary hero on PvE and plan to be more active in PvP, you should focus on the the Speed skill tree. This will see his troops march faster on the battlefield (and getting some additional bonuses along the way as you invest in Talents), making him good for PvP with fast attacks and movement.

I believe that you will generally play more PvE than PvP and you could turn him into a White Monkey destroyer. This is the route that I decided to follow and I am happy with the choice I have made.

Oscar’s Cons

By all means, I think we can all agree that Oscar is not an amazing Fighter. He has good active skills and can be useful in particular situations, but he’s not extremely specialized, not even in PvE, which makes him a bit less impressive.

But the biggest con is, if you are a free to play player and you don’t plan on investing money regularly into the game, the fact that he’s a Legendary hero.

This means that starring him up will be very difficult, as you will have few (if any) Golden Gene Potions. I personally had to spend 5,000 CDs just to star him up once. Pretty expensive!

But since you’re starting to pay for getting heroes, you will probably have no problems paying some more in order to truly see him reach his maximum ability.

In which case, he is a good hero and definitely can be put to good use, as he is better than most, even with just the starting skill (as a secondary hero, for example).

Conclusion: should you get Oscar in Age of Apes?

I consider the amount you have to pay for him affordable and a price worth paying for a Legendary hero. You need him at two stars to fully take advantage of his White Monkey skills, which might prove expensive to do.

But all in all, Oscar is a good hero that will help a lot, especially if you get him early in the game where any bonus against White Monkeys is useful.

He can also be used as a secondary thanks to his active skills. Even more so if you manage to get him to four stars and unlock his First Aid Kit skill. This will heal a lot of your troops, making it easier to reduce losses during difficult fights, including those in PvP.

What do you think about Oscar, though? Is it worth investing in getting him (and especially the materials required to grow him) or you’d better continue as a f2p player or invest your money elsewhere?
