TikTok and Dubsmash are two popular apps that let people upload short videos of themselves to social media. They each have their own pros and cons, but which one is better?
In this article, we will discuss the features and differences between these apps to help you decide whether Dubsmash or TikTok is right for you.
I personally prefer Dubsmash to TikTok, but this is just my opinion. I like it better because it has a lot of great features that TikTok doesn’t have. The latter is also becoming more toxic and the content posted there is sometimes way too cringy, crazy or fake.
Of course, you can still find great content (and content creators) on TikTok, but it’s getting more and more difficult to sweep through the bad weeds.
Dubsmash vs TikTok: The Details
For starters, Dubsmash is easier to use and it allows you to edit videos before uploading them so they turn out exactly how you want them.
It also lets you create your own library of sounds instead of having to search for one. TikTok allows the user to add music from their phone’s library, which is great because you can choose any song regardless of copyright issues unlike Dubsmash where there are only certain songs available in its own library.
Additionally, TikTok has a cool feature called “duets” that let you add a video in the middle of another user’s video, but Dubsmash does not have this feature.
The cons to using TikTok are mostly related to copyright infringement and its toxicity with kids under 13 years old since it doesn’t require them to be verified before they can use the app or post content on their profile.
On the other hand, Dubsmash has a lot of downsides as well. I wrote about these a bit more in-depth in the previous article where I listed all the Dubsmash pros and cons. Make sure to check it out!
One other big advantage that Dubsmash has over TikTok is its easy to use interface. The video feed shows videos from users you follow as well as those who have liked your own videos in the past.
The app is also incredibly simple and straightforward to use, with only a few options available on the main page.
TikTok’s interface can be overwhelming at first because it has so many different features that are unique to the platform.
TikTok users who follow you will show up at the top of your feed while new videos from other users will show up at the bottom.
There’s also a chat feature where you can interact with other TikTok fans, plus an explore page that has popular videos from all over the world and trending hashtags so you can discover new content!

Is Dubsmash better than TikTok?
To be honest with you, I think that both of these apps are great and they each have their own pros and cons, as well as solid audiences.
It’s a personal opinion in the end – you will like either one or both. I personally prefer Dubsmash to TikTok and consider it the better app because it is less toxic and more fun to use.
However, there is one thing about TikTok that really gets on my nerves since it’s so unorganized: its follow feed! It can get pretty annoying scrolling through all the videos just to find ones from accounts that you follow.
The explore page is cool, but it’s simply too overwhelming to find new content on TikTok since there are so many options available for the user.
Is Dubsmash kid-friendly?
Even though I keep mentioning the toxicity of TikTok and the fact that it is really unsafe for kids, Dubsmash is not 100% safe and also has some issues.
For one, it’s a lot harder to find content on Dubsmash because there are so few trending hashtags available – you have to actually search for what you want instead of just scrolling through the feed as we can do on TikTok!
Even though the content is moderated, you can still find videos that are not appropriate for kids.
Overall, even though Dubsmash seems the safer option when compared to TikTok, I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it’s safe for kids. It’s actually considered 12+, but I would go as far as saying that it’s better for those over 18.
A bit of Dubsmash history
The first thing you should know about Dubsmash, is that it has been around longer than TikTok.
The app was launched in November 2014 by Jonas Drüppel, Roland Grenke and Daniel Taschik, but it didn’t really take off until 2016 when several celebrities started using the app to upload their own videos of impersonations and remakes of popular songs and movies.
Since then, the app has grown tremendously and is now available in 36 different languages and used by people all around the world!
A bit of TikTok history
TikTok was actually founded by a Chinese company called ByteDance. The first version of the app launched back in March 2016 as Douyin but later changed its name to TikTok after acquiring Musical.ly in 2017.
It was only after the merge of Musical.ly that it grew exponentially to become one of the most popular apps for video sharing worldwide!
Dubsmash vs TikTok: The Verdict
While both Dubsmash and TikTok are great social media platforms with a lot to offer its users, I prefer Dubsmash over TikTok.
Dubsmash has a lot of great features like the ability to add sounds and edit videos with music from your own library that TikTok does not have, which makes it easier and more fun to use.
The latter is also becoming more toxic and the content posted there is sometimes way too crass for my taste.
I definitely recommend Dubsmash over TikTok but, if you don’t like it as much, give the latter app a try since their features are pretty similar!
I believe that I am in the minority, though. Let us all know what you think about this and which of the two apps is your favorite (and why).
